Easy to make, with no fiddly bits, Lotta is a perfect dressmaking project for beginners, or a satisfyingly speedy sew for more experienced stitchers. It has a blousy bodice and flared skirt, cinched in with a narrow elasticated waistline.

Choose between knee-length or midi-length skirt, with grown-on short sleeves or bracelet-length drop shoulder sleeves, with optional deep patch pockets. To make it even more versatile, you can make this dress in either woven fabric or stretchy jersey.

Fabric Suggestions

Light- to medium-weight drapey fabrics such as chambray, viscose (rayon), Tencel (lyocell), double gauze, brushed cotton or crêpe. The short
sleeve version can also be made in less drapey fabrics such as linen, cotton lawn, and seersucker.

More experienced? Try single knit drapey jersey, stretch velvet or light-weight French terry.

First dress sewn.

A complete novice and this is the first dress I have every made. The instruction book was good although some things were unclear due to my lack of knowledge.
The videos were brilliant and really helpful. Yes I would recommend this for a beginner. Pleased with the end dress, a few mistakes I admit but have learnt a lot.
Now shall be looking for a new pattern for my next endeavour. Hopefully will find something for a mature lady.

Perfect pattern for a relaxed dress. Super easy to make and wear. Made it in a viscose fabric and will definitely try a knit fabric, too.

Versatile dress

This pattern is easy to put together. The dress can be dressed up for evenings or just a day dress, depending on fabric used. I pair my dress with a wide belt to finish the garment. I used fabric from my stash which was purchased from Seasalt when that company sold fabric. My next dress will be made from Italian cotton.

Versatile dress that is easy for beginners

I used a lightweight cotton and the dress turned out great. I'm not a beginner anymore but I think this would be a straightforward pattern for people early in their sewing journey. I will likely make more in the future.
