Hi, I'm Tilly! I started sewing in 2010 and instantly fell in love with turning fabric into wearable creations. When friends and strangers alike shared their struggles with confusing sewing patterns, I knew there had to be a better way. So, I created Tilly and the Buttons - to make sewing fun, accessible, and beginner-friendly.
Combining my professional background in education with my passion for DIY fashion, I set about to rethink sewing resources for the new wave of makers.
After launching my first sewing patterns and signing my first book deal, I left my day job to grow Tilly and the Buttons full-time. Today, my team and I continue to share the joy of sewing with makers worldwide.
We love sewing and want you to love it too!

Fast delivery fabulous pattern as always
This was my first time making a garment from Tilly and the Buttons, and I had a great experience. The pattern includes several options, and I chose the peplum top with side ties. I was pleased with how quickly it came together, and the instructions were clear, easy to follow, and very beginner-friendly. I'm really happy with the finished result and look forward to trying more of their patterns in the future
I’d recommend watching the YouTube tutorial if doing the arm cuffs. I bodged that bit up. Still looks great though.
It was a tough decision as there are so many choices/ways you can work with this pattern but I went with the tiered midi dress and have 0 regrets! A really straight forward and simple make and the perfect choice for hot weather - would definitely recommend this pattern!
I made the peplum top with side ties and I have lived in it ever since! This pattern has so many views to make, I already have my next top cut out waiting to be sewn. The instructions are clear, with photograph through out a great beginner friendly project.

I always love Tilly patterns. The Lyra and now indigo are my go to. Easy to assemble and perfect finishes every time! Used the pattern to make an organza overlay dress with French seams. I just cut a size bigger to allow for the fabric. A perfect oversized dress.
I love this pattern! It makes the perfect crop top for me and can't wait to make it in different fabrics!
This is the second Nell I've made and I love it so much! It's the perfect dress to wear to work in the summer and I love how adaptable the pattern is.
This sew took me a few hours over the course of a weekend. The instructions are really easy to follow. I find the basic pattern a little too baggy for my liking, so this time I added some extra darts in the back bodice and I'm so happy with the fit!
I know I'll keep returning back to this pattern as an absolute staple.
I have loved making this pattern and am about to begin sewing a second version. Because it has a wider neckline I am going to omit the buttons and make it a slip on top. The pin tucks were a challenge with my very slippery fabric but the instructions were just great and I am so enjoying wearing the blouse.
Easy to download, to print and to sew. Great tutorial online made making this a very quick sew. I made this for my sister and she was very pleased. Great gift idea 😍
I've just made my daughter who's expecting a pair of Erin dungarees in a dark red canvas with a pretty cotton lining.
She is very pleased with them, I made one size up and she hopes to wear them for breastfeeding too.
Tilly, as usual your instructions are faultless, I've also made her Bettine and Agnes outfits too.
I have never sewn a garment before and, to be honest, until last year I haven’t used a sewing machine since I was about twelve (a lot of years ago now!) However, I followed the video and have made a wearable top. The video was amazing, so easy to follow and the instructions were clear and precise. The pattern was also easy to use This is a great beginners package! Buy it and make a top! It is great value for money. I have ordered more material to make it again with different sleeves to consolidate my learning. Big thanks to the Tilly and the Buttons team.
I bought some lovely linen mix at the end of last summer and started looking for the ideal pattern!
I finally found the Mabel Dress and Shirt pattern and decided to go for it!
I absolutely love shirring - find it quite easy and love the effect.
I found the instructions easy to follow although I didn’t read them properly and used elastic around the whole sleeve head….. I like the way it fits though!
I added inseam pockets as I think all dresses should have pockets!!!!
Loved the fact that you didn’t have to print out the extra pattern to extend the shirt into the dress - just adding the required length on - saving the world one piece of paper at the time!
All in all I’m very happy with the way it turned out and will definitely make another when I find the next perfect fabric!
