Sewing machine with adjustable zigzag stitch, stretch needle and basic tools (a rotary cutter and mat are helpful)

Fabric Suggestions

Main fabric: Four-way stretch knit swimwear fabric with at least 50% stretch in both directions. Look for a mix of nylon or polyester with elastane (AKA Lycra/Spandex).

Lining: Swimwear lining, stretch mesh or more of your main fabric, with at least 50% stretch in both directions.

Great swimming costume

I am so pleased with my swimming costume. I have never made one before and Tilly’s instructions were brilliant and easy to follow. I thought a swimming costume would be beyond me but I’m so happy with the result. I had to grade up two sizes at the waist but that was easy to do with the instructions. I’ll definitely be making more.

Great bathing suit!

I’m pretty new at sewing and decided I wanted to use this pattern to make a new bikini for an upcoming trip. This is my first time sewing a bathing suit and this pattern taught me several new skills. I found this pattern very approachable and there was only one step that gave me pause (the ruffles). Even being so new and slow, I got this done in under a week, just in time for my trip. I really like this bathing suit and I already have plans to make another.

Shop bought swimsuits which fit well are difficult for me to find. I have hips, a relatively small waist, small back and boobs!! I’ve managed to grade this to a perfect fit using the useful information in the pattern. I love it!!
