Mabel Dress

I bought some lovely linen mix at the end of last summer and started looking for the ideal pattern!
I finally found the Mabel Dress and Shirt pattern and decided to go for it!
I absolutely love shirring - find it quite easy and love the effect.
I found the instructions easy to follow although I didn’t read them properly and used elastic around the whole sleeve head….. I like the way it fits though!
I added inseam pockets as I think all dresses should have pockets!!!!
Loved the fact that you didn’t have to print out the extra pattern to extend the shirt into the dress - just adding the required length on - saving the world one piece of paper at the time!
All in all I’m very happy with the way it turned out and will definitely make another when I find the next perfect fabric!

Mabel blouse

This is a lovely.pattern and very easy to follow. Also easy to adjust if needed. I put in a few extra rows of shirring to make the waistband more defined and slightly shortened the elastic at the front, back and sleeves to hold the neckline in a bit more. I'll be wearing it all the time and making a dress soon as well, thanks!

Shirring disaster!

The pattern is great. The front takes a bit of construction. My first top worked really well but when I made a 2nd top and dress (at the same time) but shirring didn’t stretch enough and I ended up having to add additional panels. This is a me problem and not the pattern I am sure! I’ve had two people say that my dress is GORGEOUS. Not bad for an old duvet!

The fabric and elastic you use can affect the amount of shirring, so I’d always recommend sewing a test swatch on a scrap of your garment fabric before starting your final piece. :) Hope you love wearing your Mabels! Virginija x
