GET INSPIRED #SewingSamara
The pattern was oversized for me by two inches each side as well as sleeve. According to measurements I followed it should have fit. So I’d suggest to anyone using this pattern to review sizing carefully. Perhaps cut a scrap pattern first and check for fit before making your final product.
The shape is lovely overall, but the v neckline was too low for my taste in the end. To fix this I added an insert to complete the look and this finished it off nicely. The sleeve Sleeve edges are dropped, but too dropped in the end as they appeared more like a sleeve on their own before sleeve was attached. Again, I edited the pattern moving the edge of the drop up then attaching the sleeve. The pattern was easy to change to suit.
It’s a good pattern easy to follow and instructions are clear. I will be using it again as I have now altered the pattern so fit is much better, I may go on to make the dress as summer has been so hot. But I may alter the shoulder further so it’s narrower. The pattern is so easy to change I don’t think it will be an issue.
I’d like to see a wrap shirt, or wrap dress pattern as these are very forgiving in sizing. I sewed as a young girl, and recently came back to it as I’m now retired. It’s been relearning how to order things but with this pattern it’s easy to stay on track. This is a great pattern for a beginner. I’d say if you make a mistake go back and change your pattern so it fits you better then try again.
What a lovely pattern to sew, I'm very new to sewing but found the instructions very clear and the pattern easy for a newbie like me.
I was so happy with how it turned out I made 3 different ones: 3/4 sleeve, short sleeve and the elasticated long sleeve. I would absolutely recommend this pattern even for very new sewers- it was great. I'm super happy and I got complimented on how nice it was, which pleased me alot. I also purchased the Frida shirt but am building up to that 🙂 Thank you Tilly.
I made two of these in parallel - a short-sleeved cropped version and a hip-length version with an elasticised sleeve, both out of a linen fabric. The A0 pattern was very convenient to have printed in a print shop. The instructions were clear and the images included really helped! Since this is oversized and I was on the verge of one of the sizes, next time I would size down instead. I will definitely make another one eventually!
Hi Sarah, thanks so much for your lovely review! It's so great to hear how much you love the design and that you're already planning your third version! I hope you enjoy wearing all of your Samara tops. :) Happy sewing, Virginija x
I loved the Samara pattern as soon as I saw it, and could imagine making lots of versions using some of the fabulous fabrics available now. The photos of the blouse made up by others were inspiring too. It was easy to piece the downloaded pattern together and it was easy to sew up too. My first version uses some cotton lawn I had in my stash and it’s very light and comfortable to wear. I’m taking it on holiday with me soon!
