Fabric Suggestions

The shift dress works best in medium-weight woven fabrics that hold their shape, such as linen, cotton twill, lightweight canvas, or jacquard.

For the other versions, use light- to medium-weight woven fabrics such as cotton poplin, lawn, seersucker, double gauze, linen and blends, viscose (rayon).

Perfect flexible pattern.

Having learned from my first Tilly pattern being too large I adjusted this pattern making my own personal pattern from the Tilly one for the perfect fit. I suggest trying thus as you may need to do the same. For me it worked! I’m so pleased I now have a perfect template to follow for the shirt, a tunic and full length dress. I will use this again and again

As you can see. I modified this pattern easily instead making ruffles instead of gathered sections. It is a very floaty summer dress now. I’ve to finish the back but the front is nearly there. I may add sleeves later but I found I can use sleeves from another Tilly pattern to do this. I highly recommend these patterns. I’ve tried so many this last month and failed so many times. I was starting to give up, but Tilly gave me inspiration to try one more time, I’m so pleased with the results. It’s the best. This pattern gave me courage to try my own ideas too, as you can see it worked nicely. Please make more. Thank you Tilly and the buttons.

Gorgeous top

I made a Leah top with a matching pair of Esti shorts and it came out beautifully, more will be made.

The pattern of summer 2026

I had absolutely no intention of buying this pattern when it was released because I don’t like getting my arms out in public.
Then I bought a fabric which was singing out to be a shift dress and so I decided to buy it!
I am so incredibly glad I did! In fact I ended up buying it twice I love it that much. I had cut the paper pattern to size 5 in my haste to make a dress for my holiday so I purchased the pdf pattern so I had all the sizes available for future use.
The first version I made was the maxi dress in a double gauze! I hacked it to have 3 tiers instead of two. Honestly on holiday it was all I wanted to wear. I immediately ordered more double gauze for another one. My plan is to make two double gauze maxi Leahs every spring! I want at least 10 so that I can wear them every day!
I also made the shift dress and I love that too. It was in a blue broderie anglaise which I fully lined with hot pink prima lawn.
I have been very brave this year and got my arms out all the time thanks to the Leah.
I am making another maxi dress today with the fabric I ordered on holiday and I have a double gauze shift dress and top cut out ready to sew up.
I also have more double gauze on the way and I’m hoping I can squeeze another maxi dress out of 3m!
I can honestly say I love this pattern! For me it has been THE pattern on summer ‘26! The maxi dress is what I am reaching for all the time. It is wear, wash and repeat! Which is why I must make more.
I will be trying it in other fabric bases too. I have a prima lawn and a viscose that I also bought on holiday and I think they are destined to become maxi Leahs too! I have a cotton that will become another shift dress too and plenty of large remnants that will become Leah tops.

Third of many

Made another Leah, this time a shift in beautiful postcard fabric, absolutely perfect for holiday! Fabric was slightly see-through so lined this version and swapped button closing for ties. Sized down for this one as previous was a bit gapey at the armhole and added some length as i'm quiet tall. So happy with this one, will be wearing at every opportunity!
