Our New Studio!
Fancy a look at our gorgeous new studio space? It's Katie here and I'm so excited to be able to share a little behind the scenes look at our new home today!
Earlier this year we began to realise we were outgrowing our studio space. When we first moved into our lovely South London premises back in 2014 things were quite different for Tilly and the Buttons. Tilly had decided to have more of a clear divide between work and home life, as until then her office had been based out of her flat. She hoped that making the big move to a separate office space would help the business to grow and encourage her to be more ambitious. To say that worked would be an understatement!

Now, although the company going from strength the strength was obviously wonderful, it had left us a little short of space. When Tilly first moved in the studio felt enormous, but now it felt like we were drowning in patterns – despite having a separate stock room and the majority of our patterns being housed off site – and we didn’t even have enough space for desks for all our team members! Much as we love one another working directly on top of each other was becoming a bit of a challenge – not to say messy and unorganised – so the time had arrived for us to find a new home.

Luckily there were several larger spaces available in our current building (which we love and didn’t want to leave!) and after a few viewing we lost our hearts to a studio which gave us over double the floorspace, with high ceilings and big windows to let in lots of natural light.

We ended up moving in at the end of March – an already very busy month for us what with vending at the Knitting and Stitching Show and the incredibly successful launch of Tilly’s newest book Stretch! Make Yourself Comfortable Sewing With Knit Fabrics – and we’ve been spending the past few months getting settled. Slowly but surely our new space is feeling more like home and we’re so happy to be able to share it with you all!

Having more floor space has allowed us the luxury of having separate packing and sewing stations, something we could have only dreamt of in our previous home! This makes processing all your lovely orders quicker and more efficient, plus we can always have sewing machines set up for testing new ideas and patterns (or a bit of lunchtime sewing which is always a real treat!).
