Lyra sewing pattern design details

Lyra combines classic shirt dress details with an effortless, wearable silhouette.

The bodice features a traditional collar and stand, button-front opening, bust darts for shaping, and gentle volume through the body. The gathered skirt adds swish and movement without feeling overly fussy, making Lyra as comfortable as it is stylish.

There are four main versions to choose from:

  • Knee-length skirt with short sleeves
  • Knee-length skirt with full-length sleeves and elasticated cuffs
  • Tiered midi skirt with short sleeves
  • Tiered midi skirt with full-length sleeves and elasticated cuffs

You can also add the optional waist tie for extra shaping, or wear Lyra loose and relaxed for an easy everyday look.

And yes — it has pockets.

Best fabrics for the Lyra sewing pattern

One of the best things about Lyra is how differently it can look depending on fabric choice.

Lyra works beautifully with a wide range of light- to medium-weight woven fabrics.

For a soft, drapey silhouette, try:

  • Viscose (rayon)
  • Tencel (lyocell)
  • Cotton lawn
  • Voile
  • Double gauze

For a more structured, classic shirt dress look, try:

  • Cotton poplin
  • Chambray
  • Seersucker
  • Lightweight cotton twill

For a cosy, autumn-ready version:

  • Lightweight needlecord
  • Soft brushed cotton

The fabric you choose will dramatically change the final look — from floaty and romantic to crisp and tailored.

You’ll also need:

  • Matching thread
  • 5 x 12–15mm (½–⅝in) buttons
  • 10mm (⅜in) elastic for the long sleeve version (wrist measurement ×2)

Check the full fabric requirements and notions list on the Lyra product page.
